Yes, posting has been a little light as of late. Yes, we’re all still doing fine. Things have slowed down at work and, frankly, with the weather we’ve been enjoying, I’ve been trying to spend as much time outside rather than sitting in front of a computer as possible.

just breathe and relax
We’re on vacation this week. No scheduled work, no overtime, no firm commitments. Unfortunately, being parents also means no sleeping in, but I guess I shouldn’t be picky.
Especially when it means that Rhiannon gets to have coordinating holiday outfits for the baby (thanks to some generous friends).
Hopefully your week is as relaxing as ours. Rumor has it that if the weather holds, we’re going to get out for a pontoon ride on a lake at some point over the next few days. I could get used to this life in a hurry.
(I’m guessing the in-laws would kick me out at some point after realizing that I was just freeloading.)
the travel had to end sometime
As much fun as it was to get out and see some new places in the world for a while, it was good to get back home and see our baby again. After 6 nights, 1300 miles on the road, 4 hotels, one walk on the beach, 2 ferry boat rides, and a couple months worth of clams and fish, I’m happy to say that we all made it back home in one piece.
This was the view out our hotel window in Seattle. Yeah, we were really roughing it.
putting things into perspective
There are things in this world a whole lot bigger than us.
Note the three of us standing at the base of the tree. I’m pretty confident we could construct several homes from the lumber made from one of these trees if they ever fell down were chopped up. Now I know how Brooklynn feels with us walking around and over her all the time.
(And the four “trunks” directly behind us are all the same tree.)
how to upsell
We had to take our vehicle in for some service on various small items and an oil change. As much as I hate having the monthly payment for a few years that goes with owning a “luxury” brand vehicle, I do appreciate some of the perks that go along with having a vehicle serviced by a “luxury” dealership.
One such perk is getting a loaner car from the dealership that is very similar to your own vehicle, or in our case, just a 2009 version of our 2008. Since 2009 happened to be a new model makeover, it’s given us a change to experience some of the changes on the inside instead of just seeing the cosmetic exterior design modifications.
We’ve spent the past two days playing with things like air-conditioned seats, a better iPod interface, a navigation package we didn’t get in our vehicle, and paddle shifters. It doesn’t mean that we are going to rush right out and get a newer car for the newer features, but at least we agree that they made it better rather than worse.
Which kind of makes us wonder, how long can we stall in going back to actually pick our car once the work is finished? It seems like we should at least try to use up the tank of gas, right? We just consider it an extended test drive and for once, we don’t have to feel bad for flooring the gas pulling away from a green light.
* – I say “luxury” in quotes because, really, have you driven a typical Honda / Toyota / Ford mid-level sedan in the past couple of years? There aren’t many bad cars out there, and a lower level make with all the options is more than enough luxury for me.
