The last time you heard from me, Brett, the best man from my wedding, was engaged.
Another one has fallen. Sheena, Rhiannon’s maid of honor, is engaged. Of our college friends who were in our wedding, one is married, three are engaged (and we’re heading to Minnesota for one of the weddings next weekend), and one is still happily single.
Rhiannon met Sheena before they even started college. They both played volleyball and seemed to become good friends almost right away. While Rhiannon and I didn’t go to college anywhere near each other, we were still in a relationship all the way through. That didn’t leave a lot of room for random dating that goes on during that age, and I think she lived vicariously through Sheena a little bit.
This was the girl who said that she was going to go on a date with at least 100 different people before she thought about settling down. I don’t know if she made it or not, but considering I know for a fact that she had at least three people overlapping at some point in college, and that number doesn’t sound so far fetched.
I don’t know what constitutes a date either. Brett came with me a couple times when I visited Rhiannon during college, and after a possibly rowdy birthday party and one or several potentially adult-type beverages, he and Sheena may or may not have ended up next to each other on a couch.
In the dark.
And Brett may or may not have requested that the lights be turned back on and all passengers of the couch remain in their upright and locked positions to prevent the need for barf bags.
This is all speculation.
Suffice it to say, Sheena was a crazy one in college. (One long-term relationship with a guy who may or may not have been her cousin. I’m serious about that one – I really don’t know. I don’t know if they ever found out one way or the other.)
But the crazy is over now. Straight and narrow for her.
And the one remaining holdout, Tyler? He owns three motorized vehicles, including a Corvette and a motorcycle. He may soon own his second house, sleeps part time in his dad’s basement, has had three jobs over the past two years, recently road-tripped to Vegas, and is currently dating a girl who moonlights as a stripper.
And that is what we committed guys like to call “Living the Dream”.
