I don’t like to get into politics too much on this site, because, when it comes to opinions, I think everyone is entitled to one and, last time I checked, arguing on the Internet rarely solves anything. However…
We found out that the school board election in Rhiannon’s school district, the one in which over half the school board was up for vote, did not go the way the teacher’s union wanted. The new members are conservatives who ran on a platform that teachers are overpaid and schools would be better off as charter schools run by parents.
I think it might be time to consider a different school district. At least we have a few years before Brooklynn actually goes to school; we can assess how much things have gone downhill at that point.

dang!!!! I totally didn’t even think of the ballot unti the day of and then from the limited info I got off the internet on each person, I quickly voted. I really should of got Rhiannon’s opinion and been much for prepared. Sorry to hear all of that. I sure hope I voted the good way!
To be honest, the votes weren’t even close. I think it was about a 60/40 split in most cases. I guess I was a little surprised because I never saw any campaigning or anything for the other candidates. Of course, I didn’t see any campaigning for the incumbents aside from a letter for the teachers union either.
The school board lost both it’s president and vice-president in the election. Things might not be as gloom and doom as I make it sound, at least I hope it isn’t. I guess I was just frustrated by the result. The teachers still don’t have a contract for this year, but unlike transit and grocery store workers and Denver Public school teachers, they have a no strike clause in their union, so you don’t hear about that as a possibility.
I understand your frustration, being a conservative is just a smokescreen nowadays. What it really means is that you are probably filthy rich and don’t think workers are entitled to collective bargaining through their local union. As a union member I sympathize with Rhiannon and not being able to settle a contract and getting jerked around. We deal with the same problems trying to negotiate with Basin Electric. Anyway hope everyone is doing good and look to see all of you at Christmas.
There are some other things afoot at the school that I really shouldn’t go into publicly – it just seems like regardless of where you work or what you do, it all comes down to politics, power struggles, and who knows who in the end rather than being based on performance and competence. All things considered, we’ll be thankful we both have steady employment and are able to get along without too much hardship.
It makes it much easier to focus on the new baby without having to worry about if you can put food on the table each night.
Joe, I’m sure we’ll see you at Christmas. It’s going to start being quite the house full of kids at your place if everyone is back at the same time.
